This is a fantastic Scandinavian sterling silver tea strainer that is from around 1900 (time period 1890-1920, I think). This is a relatively heavy piece (1.8 Troy ounces/56 grams) and it is profusely decorated. The applied, cast handle has a superb two-sided image of a Dutch lady holding a basket. The wide rim has foliate scrolls all over. The bowl is undecorated.
There are four hallmarks, that are located on the rim. These are (left to right) Crown over GR; a Scandinavian sailing ship; a lady’s head facing left; and 930 (silver content). I do not know the manufacturer. The strainer measures about 6 1/4 inches long, 3 3/8 inches wide and just over 1/2 inch deep. Excellent condition. |
