| Excellent antique pewter mug from 1775. Measures about 4 1/2 inches tall and 3 inches across the rim. Excellent condition, having the typical wear and scratches from use, with minor dents and a short, minor crack on the rim at the top of the handle. There are two sets of marks on the cup. One is the Imperial pint mark. The other has some controversy: The collector I got these from had a photocopy of the mark from a book, as shown, indicating Bush & Walter, Bristol, 1775. A collector from Maine wrote: The pseudo-hallmarks belong to Bolton & Wylde who used this strike 1822-1835 according to the British Pewter Society and the tankard dates to this period. The documentation the collector provided (attribution from H.H.Cotterell's, Old Pewter, c.1920) is now known to be incorrect. | |||||||||||
