Gorgeous antique silvered mercury glass vessel with polychrome hand painted decoration. The vase is silvered on the interior and has a frosted silvering when viewed from the outside. The enameling is a classical swag motif with flowers. The vase was hand blown from glass, is double walled and the interior was coated with silver or mercury. Urn shape form and elongated bubbles are trapped in the glass.
Measures about 9 inches tall and 2 3/4 inches across the top. Condition is very good, but does show some deterioration of the silvering and a few minor losses to the narrowest of the enamel design. The bottom pontil looks to have been re-sealed. |
