| his vintage plastic stool with red knit upholstery (not original) dates from circa 1967 and was made in Italy by Kartell. Various auction houses have attributed this design to Achille Castiglioni and Joe Colombo. This design, sometimes referred to as the rocchetto (spool), was one of dozens of furniture, lighting and other decorative plastic objects imported from Italy and distributed in the U.S. by George Beylerian in the 1960s and 1970s. Beylerian was the leading champion of Italian plasticware in the U.S. and supplied leading retailers and boutiques in New York and elsewhere. This particular design is shown in a photograph of a Macy's floor display in Cara Greenberg's book, Op to Pop, Furniture of the 1960s, published in 1999 by Bulfinch Press. Measures 17" (43.2 cm) tall and 15.5" (39.4 cm) across. | |||||||
