Ceramic Bowl, Burma, ca. 14th-16th C.
Small white ceramic Bowl, Burma, ca. 14th-16th C. Faint green glaze drops on interior. H.2"(5cm) x Dia.4.125"(10.5cm.) Burmese ceramics have been widely found in western, northern, and central Thailand. Common among them are monochrome white wares that are undecorated, such as this example. Also common are the colorful green and white wares, perhaps in imitation of Chinese blue & white wares. The green glaze is using a small amount of copper. Faint green drops on this bowl perhaps show the marks of a potter’s hurried brush or the drips of a nearby pot waiting to dry. These tiny “accidents” give this piece its character of Burmese origin and folk beauty. Includes wooden box.
