A pair of applied silver fish face each other on this bronze vase. The patination is a rich dark mottled brown, slightly lighter on the top half of the vase. The piece dates from mid-century and is signed, but we don't know the maker's mark. No box.

This wonderful old jug was used for oil storage. It has black and white glaze splotched and drizzled on a brown field. It's shape is somewhat eccentric. The old cork stopper has shrunk, and fits loosely. It has some bug damage. Dates from Meiji period or earlier.

This fine cha-bitsu or tea ceremony box has deeply-carved chrysanthemums on the kamakura-style cover. The sides of the box and in a different style lacquer; a woven texture (as cloth) is visible in the fininsh. The bottom has black lacquer in a comb-textured finish while the interior is smooth. The lid inverts for use as a tray.
Noticed on close inspection are some small chips on the box bottom and the box rim as well as a dent or two on the box's interior floor. The box dates from the Taisho or early Showa period and is a very attractive piece.

This is a beautiful bronze temple ornament. It has eight bells hanging around the eaves. The finial is comprised of two fish holding a disc in their mouths. The rust on the top would have washed onto the lantern from the chain used to hang it. The bells are substantial and have a pleasant sound in the breeze.

This chunky pup has the artist's mark on the bottom. It's totally appealing with its playful pose and curled tail. It has the big eyes and tipped ears of a chin pup, but it could also be said to be a baby shishi, or lion dog. There's a drilled hole in the bottom of the raised paw so perhaps there was a ball with it originally.

These pants are layered and sashiko stitched throughout. They're made of a striped cotton, or shima fabric and constructed with a massive gusset in the center. There's a patch on the gusset. These pants are carefully made with binding on the side vents and at the bottom of the tapered legs. They're in very sound condition.
