Although it's fierce-looking, this weapon was considered to be somewhat benign, or at least non-lethal. Known as a thief-catcher, it was used (generally by police) to grab one's kimono sleeves. A quick twist would ensure that the target was captured. The hand-forged crown is about 5" long and about 4" across. Below the crown are strips of spikes extending about 25" down the pole to an intricate rope knot. The butt end of the weapon has an iron cap. The total length is 94-1/2" and it will have to ship FedEx ($40.00) because of its size. Dates from late Edo or Meiji period.

It's a heavy piece, weighing about 18 lbs. and dates from the Meiji period.
