This is a turn of the century glass kerosene lamp with its storage box which also serves as the lamp's stand. Kazuko Koizumi in his book, TRADITIONAL JAPANESE FURNITURE shows other examples of Japanese kerosene lamps made at the turn of the century which reflect Western influence. The tapered wood case has a copper knob to lift out the front panel. The panel is difficult to lift out. The storage box has a safety feature to securely place the lamp while it is in use. The glass lamp itself is petite in comparison to western kerosene lamps, it is close to the size range of the Victorian miniature lamp. The base of the lamp has 2 chip areas - please see photo.
Storage Box Dimenions: 12 1/2" Height, Box Tapers From 5 1/4" At Top To 7" At Base
