$550.00

This Shigaraki vessel held molten bronze as it was heated then poured for castings. The slag-glazed sides and spout are deeply textured and richly colored from heavy use around the turn of the century. Originally, there were holes beside the spout to suspend the crucible while pouring. One hole remains while the other side, and the rest of the rim, testify to the rigors of handling molten metals. The upper edge is deeply eroded. This wear didn't cause the vessel's retirement; the coating indicates that its use continued long after the edge wore away. It's an unusual and beautiful relic of Japan's great artisan history.
Dimensions:
Height: 23"
Width: 18"
Diameter without spout: 12"
Weight, unpackaged: 59 lbs. 12 oz.
