This pair kyosoku have silk cushioned tops with lacquered wood bases. They are in overall good condition with some threadbareness to the silk fabric, a chip on each of the armrest's seat edge and minimal wear to the lacquer finish. They date middle of the 20th century or earlier.

Gyoban Fish bells were traditionally suspended in a Zen Buddhist Temple's bathing area. When struck with the mallet, the percussive sound was a call to meals, rituals and meditation. The gyoban were not used in religious ceremonies. The fish is carved from one piece of wood with center being hollowed from under the belly. There is loss of the lacquer negoro finish and some nicks of wood gone. Dates from mid to late showa period. A good reference to the gyoban bell can be found at usd.edu/nmm/EasternAsia/ Checklist

The jizai kagi suspends from a beam and hangs over the hearth to hold a tetsubin or kettle. This iron jizai kagi has a gourd that sits across the fan crosspiece above the pot hook. The entire piece is iron and there is a small amount of rust.

Offered for sale is this cast iron tetsubin with signed bronze lid by Ryubundo. The sides have raised decorations of depicted coins. The tetsubin was filled with water for 24 hours - it did not leak. It is in overall good condition, please note the rust on the bowl's interior.
