This sho-dansu (honbako) was used to store books in the space behind the 3 drop down, or lift out door panels. It also features 5 drawers to store tools, etc. Made of kiri wood and constructed with wood pegs. Please note that the replacement knobs are mismatched. See photo for condition of middle panel knob, shrinkage crack in 2 panels and also one wood panel which has some wood erosion. Dates circa 1920.

This oversized sake gourd was probably used as decor in a sake or retail shop. The woman dressed in a kasuri kimono is painted and signed by the artist. The silk cord passes through the wood stopper's ring and winds around the gourds midriff ending with a tassel. There is small loss of the gourd's outer layer, please see photo. Dates mid to late Showa period.

Large, robust ceramic tsubo with Daruma and his fly whisk. The unglazed body of the pot appears smooth yet is grainy to the touch. Daruma's high relief body, whisk & eyes are glazed as well as the incised kanji characters. Please note small chip 1/4" on foot rim - see last photo. A substantial contempory look, pre 1980.

A burl base or stand is this eagle's landing or takeoff perch. The bird with its immense wing span is also from a piece of burl. The bird lifts out of the stand and can be placed in at different angles. There is some unknown white substance on the left wing's underside. Please see photo. Weighs unpacked 6 pounds, 6 ozs.

This ikebana basket's wood branch handle is suggestive of Mt. Fujiyama's silhouette. Wood branches or roots are woven into a random pattern with small and larger bamboo strips which form the tapered body of the basket. There are a few broken strips on the basket's body and base.

This kiri wood kodansu, or small chest with its 6 drawers has copper handles and hardware. It is in overall good condtiion. Please see photo where the "square" drawer is missing the upper part of the lock. There is a small loss of wood on the top which has been nicely rounded out and there are scratch marks on the round copper plates which someone tried to polish. This piece is solid and provides good storage.
