The god of wealth and farmers is depicted in this heavy roof ornament made of kawara clay. Daikoku is one of the seven lucky gods and always has his signature mallet which he uses to dispense endless bounty. The tile has lots of lichen and moss in the nooks and crannies of its surface. He's wonderfully formed and obviously lives well outdoors. There's a significant crack that looks original to the piece and doesn't threaten its stability although it may not tolerate repeated freezing/thawing in wet environments. Dates from the Taisho or Meiji period. Dimensions: Height: 12" Width: 11-3/4" Depth: 7" Weight, unpacked: 20lbs. 6 oz. The bold kanji characters on this shigaraki pot identify a tea shop. The assertive style and scribbled glaze are signature shigaraki. Three lumpy "ears" sit on the pot's shoulder below an everted rim with lip moulding, and finger-grooves ring the sides. The brown glaze was applied with a wave or ripple effect. The underside has faint signature marks. The inside reveals the pale paste and shows drips of the brown glaze. Notice a small chunk of the kanji has been lost. Dimensions: Height: 14" Diameters, rim, widest, foot: 5-1/2", 12", 6" Please add $25.00 for insured Parcel Post shipping in the continental U.S. Other locations may inquire for shipping quote.

Sweet and happy Otafuku (also known as Okame) is nearly round in this figure. It has three holes near the top and may have been placed over a hibachi for use as a te-aburi or handwarmer, or she could have covered burning incense. In any case she's true to form with her round figure, plump cheeks and unfailing pleasant demeanor. Dimensions: Height; 6-1/2" Width: 7" Depth: 8" Please add $14.00 for insured Parcel Post shipping in the continental U.S. Other locations may inquire for shipping quote.

Ash and salt from the wood-fired kiln give much to the character of this hibachi. It's a hand-warmer, or te-aburi and has included a set of tongs for handling charcoal. A pair of fish lie on the top. There are three small holes in the bottom of the piece. This is an authentic and very interesting piece of yellow Seto pottery dating from the Meiji or Taisho period. Dimensions: Height: 7" Diameter: 9-1/2" Please add $20.50 for insured Parcel Post shipping in the continental U.S. Additional photo on our site at TokugawaAntiques.com
