A wood cabinet to hold a shamisen(s), a Japanese musical instrument of 3 strings. The cabinet's door has a poem encouraging the player to be like a flower in the garden that will bloom. Fabric with couched thread partially frames the poem's niche in the door. The cabinet is in overall good condition with some wear: chipping on the lacquered edges (2 examples in the photo) and scratches & dings to the wood. The door fits too tightly and for many years has been opened by inserting a blade between the door and body of the cabinet - please see photo which shows this area. A small drawer is at the bottom of the cabinet. For additional photos, please view our website Tokugawa Antiques.
