The advertising on this dye box informs the purchaser that the hair dye will make the hair black, that it will cover grey or brownish hair. On the lid's underside, encouragement is given once the box is empty, to reuse as a receptacle for bills. A slot in the lid is provided to fill the box. Company brand name is "Hoyushokai". There is some loss of paper or stains on all sides. Dates from the 1920's.

Offered for sale is this vintage "half under kimono" or Han Juban made of cotton flannel (body) and sleeves of silk with a light weight wool lining. There is a 1/16 inch hole in the silk sleeve and the faded saffron colored wool lining has numerous holes and mends (boro) in both sleeve linings. The collar is fraying. Please see photos for condition.

This oribe tile used in the tea ceremony is meant to hold the chagama brazier or hibachi. The body has a raked effect of weft and warf in greyish/taupe tones with off-white enamel islands and a green overglaze copper oxide shading which covers 1/3 of the body's surface. Its simplicity is the essence of wabi sabi.There are chips on all four sides from its many years of use. Dates from Taisho early Showa period. Weighs unpacked 9 pounds 2 ounces.

An iron handle provides easy portability of this wood bento box lunch set. The lacquered box with lift door holds the 5 divided lunch boxes and one lid. The lunch boxes have a dark brackish green lacquer with lacquered red interiors. There are lacquer chips and minor chips and wear on the storage carrier. It is in overall good condition and dates from the Taisho era.

The mizusashi is used in the tea ceremony to hold fresh water to refill the tea kettle. This more contemporary piece is pleasing with its ash glaze over its applied collar and flared skirt. It is in good condition with a small area of roughness on the collar rim.

Offered for sale is this pair of arare cast iron chosi, sake warming kettles. The handles have silver inlay in an arabesque design. There is some loss of lacquer on the lids, predominately on the undersides and rims, and some minimal rusting on the kettle bottoms - see photos. They are in overall good condition and date circa 1900's. Water was let stand in the kettles for 24 hours and they did not leak.
