The god of wealth and farmers is depicted in this heavy roof ornament made of kawara clay. Daikoku is one of the seven lucky gods and always has his signature mallet which he uses to dispense endless bounty. The tile has lots of lichen and moss in the nooks and crannies of its surface. He's wonderfully formed and obviously lives well outdoors. There's a significant crack that looks original to the piece and doesn't threaten its stability although it may not tolerate repeated freezing/thawing in wet environments.
Dates from the Taisho or Meiji period.
Weight, unpacked: 20lbs. 6 oz.
