An unusually large Inca aribaloid pacha from Peru, ca. 1300 - 1500 AD. This nicely burnished blackware vessel is 9-1/2" high and is decorated with a serpent. Its head forms the spout at the base of the chamber. Pachas are ceremonial vessels used to conduct water in fertility and water worship rites and the downward facing serpent has Underworld connotations. In excellent condition, with good mineral deposits.

A gorgeous Maya polychrome cylinder from El Salvador, ca. 400 – 800 AD. This superb corseted vessel is 8” high, 5-3/4” in diameter and is covered with intricate diamond designs that emulate snake skin blended with jaguar spots. The cross-hatching seen within the diamonds connotes darkness in Classic Maya iconography, creating a pattern of repeating sacred portals to the underworld. A marvelous Moche IV bottle from Peru, ca. 450 -550 AD. This rare multi-tiered vessel is 7-1/4” high and depicts two plates stacked upon each other, with the upper one overflowing with beans. The plates are decorated with typical step-fret and terrace designs, while a superbly sculpted monkey is perched atop the beans and is grasping the spout. In excellent condition, good mineral deposits.

A fine Maya polychrome bowl from El Salvador, ca. 400 – 800 AD. This beautiful round-bottom example is 6-3/4” in diameter and depicts a trio of animated monkeys. Each is nicely detailed and appears to be making a hand gesture. The rim band consists of typical Copador style glyphs, boldly painted in red and orange over the cream slip.
