Set of 5 Japanese dishes of lacquered wood, lacquered in 5 different colours. The wood grain clearly visible on both sides of the paper-thin circular dishes. Each surface covered in a different colour: deep dark brown, deep red, light red, deep green and light brown. Each dish signed in lacquer within the foot ring with a seal reading “sa” (?). Japan, made ca. 1988.
Diameter: 5 ¾ in. (14.8 cm); height: 1 1/16 in. (2.8 cm.
In cardboard box with red label reading KanKan. Size 6 3/8 x 6 3/8 x 2 5/8 in. (16.4 x 16.4 x 6.8 cm).
Perfect condition.

Set of 5 Japanese lacquered wood dishes of square lobed shape decorated with red and green narrow stripes. The cypress wood grain clearly visible on both sides of the dishes. Each dish signed at the underside in red lacquer with a seal shaped as a stylised elephant, indicating the known Kyoto lacquer workshop “Zohiko”. Made ca. 1988.
4 11/16 x 4 11/16 x 3/4 in.(12.1 x 12.1 x 2 cm).
In wooden box, inscribed on the lid “Thread pattern” (itomaki), signed inside the lid “Heian Zohiko” and with red circular seal “Zohiko”. Size 5 11/16 x 5 11/16 x 2 13/16 in. (14.7 x 14.7 x 7.2 cm).

Set of 5 Japanese deep red lacquer plates with dark grey incised decoration of scattered plum blossom on cracked ice ground, rim and underside lacquered black. Fine quality wood and lacquer dishes. Each signed at the bottom in incised characters Wajima Senshu saku (made by Senshu, in Wajima), made ca. 1989.
Size 5 ¼ x 4 ¼ x ½ in. (13.2 x 10.6 x 1.3 cm).
Perfect condition.
In wooden box, inscribed and stamped on the lid Wajima chin(kin) (incised) sumi (black ink) ice and plum pattern. Signed inside lid Senshu tsukuru (made), and with square red
seal.
Size 6 x 4 15/16 x 3 1/16 in. (15.4 x 12.7 x 7.8 cm).

Black lacquer, lidded box of square shape, decorated with two leafy plants inlaid in eggshell, with a dragonfly in sprinkled red lacquer, and some red and green swirls indicating the ground. All sides covered with glossy black lacquer. Inside lid gold foil label: AS, ARTEX SAIGON, H.002. Vietnam, ca. 1985-90.
Measurements: 6 ½ x 6 ½ x 3 in. (17 x 17 x 7.3 cm).

The basket lacquered with dark brown lacquer.
The basket, woven of natural split bamboo and vines, contains a removable hexagonal flat plate covered on one side with gold leaf and scattered with dark green, brown and black lacquer squares. The glossy gold surface is protected by transparent lacquer. For a different effect the reverse side of the hexagonal plate can be used, it being painted in a rustic style with reddish brown lacquer over a brushed wood ground. Later part of 20th century.
Basket: diameter 7 ¾ in. (19.3 cm), height 1 ½ in. (3.7 cm).
Plate: diameter 6 ¾ in. (17 cm)
