Set of 5 Japanese deep red lacquer plates decorated with three gold foil squares (ichimatsu-e). Japan, ca. 1990. Diameter: 6 ¾ in. (17.5 cm); height: ¾ in. (2 cm). In fitted wooden box, inscribed on the lid in black script Meimei sara 5, ichimatsu-e (5 plates with chequered pattern), and with circular red seal imprint inside lid of box. Size of box 17 3/8 x 17 3/8 x 3 9/16 in. (19 x 19 x 9.2 cm). One dish with tiny scratches to edge, otherwise perfect condition. Pieces located in Europe.

Set of 5 Japanese dishes of lacquered wood, lacquered in 5 different colours. The wood grain clearly visible on both sides of the paper-thin circular dishes. Each surface covered in a different colour: deep dark brown, deep red, light red, deep green and light brown. Each dish signed in lacquer within the foot ring with a seal reading “sa” (?). Japan, made ca. 1988. Diameter: 5 ¾ in. (14.8 cm); height: 1 1/16 in. (2.8 cm. In cardboard box with red label reading KanKan. Size 6 3/8 x 6 3/8 x 2 5/8 in. (16.4 x 16.4 x 6.8 cm). Perfect condition. Pieces located in Europe.

Set of 5 Japanese lacquered wood dishes of square lobed shape decorated with red and green narrow stripes. The cypress wood grain clearly visible on both sides of the dishes. Each dish signed at the underside in red lacquer with a seal shaped as a stylised elephant, indicating the known Kyoto lacquer workshop “Zohiko”. Made ca. 1988. 4 11/16 x 4 11/16 x 3/4 in.(12.1 x 12.1 x 2 cm). In wooden box, inscribed on the lid “Thread pattern” (itomaki), signed inside the lid “Heian Zohiko” and with red circular seal “Zohiko”. Size 5 11/16 x 5 11/16 x 2 13/16 in. (14.7 x 14.7 x 7.2 cm). Perfect condition. Pieces located in Europe.

The basket lacquered with dark brown lacquer. The basket, woven of natural split bamboo and vines, contains a removable hexagonal flat plate covered on one side with gold leaf and scattered with dark green, brown and black lacquer squares. The glossy gold surface is protected by transparent lacquer. For a different effect the reverse side of the hexagonal plate can be used, it being painted in a rustic style with reddish brown lacquer over a brushed wood ground. Later part of 20th century. Basket: diameter 7 ¾ in. (19.3 cm), height 1 ½ in. (3.7 cm). Plate: diameter 6 ¾ in. (17 cm) Perfect condition. Piece located in Europe.

Set of 5 Japanese deep red lacquer plates with gold-net decoration, rim and bootom outside lacquered black. Fine quality wood and lacquer dishes, each painted individually with a net pattern in gold lacquer. Made 1988-04-10, by Ozawa Risuke, Aizu. Diameter 5.3 in. (13.3 cm), height 0.5 in. (1.5 cm). Very slightly rubbed in some places, otherwise perfect condition. Piece located in Europe.

Set of three black lacquer sake cups, undecorated. Wood base, flawlessly smoothed and lacquered. Signed with an unread red lacquer seal at the bottom of the largest cup. Japan, 20th century (ca. 1990). Sizes: largest - H 1 15/16 in. (5.1 cm), diameter 3 ¾ in. (9.7 cm); middle - H 1 5/8 in. (4.3 cm), diameter 3 9/16 in. (9.1 cm); small - H 15/16 in. (3.7 cm), diameter3 3/8 in. (8.7 cm). Perfect condition. These pieces are located in Europe (EC).

Circular black lacquer dish with applied white-gold foil decoration, all surfaces of black lacquer. Applied at the center with a square of white-gold foil, painted in black lacquer with stylized waves. Traces of white-gold brushed into the wood grain. Unsigned. Japan, 20th century (ca. 1990). Set of five circular black and red dishes, top surface of black lacquer, underside of red lacquer. The wood at the underside decorated with a concentric circle, the wood-grain still visible through the coat of red lacquer. Japan, later 20th century. Diameter 5 in. (12.8 cm) Perfect condition. In fitted cardboard box, 2 1/8” (H) x 5 5/8” x 5 5/8” (5.5 x 14.2 x 14.2 cm), printed label on the lid reads: NAKANISHI shitsugei (lacquer art, referring to the red and black lacquer). Extra label: GAISHU .. MEIMEI NO SARA (EACH DISH Label inside box read: Musashi no shikkôgei (lacquer handicraft of Musashi). This set is located in Europe (EC).
