Tall and slender natsume of cylindrical shape, the deep cover and receptacle meeting at the middle of its height. Plain black lacquer ground, undecorated. Black lacquer interiors. Signed at the bottom with an incised stylized seal mark ZÔHIKO (the character zô means ‘elephant’). Height 3 1/8” (8 cm), diameter 2” (5 cm). Purchased in Japan around 1985. Perfect condition.
In fitted wooden box (tomobako) 4 ¼ x 2 ¾ x 2 ¾ inches (10.7 x 7 x 7 cm), inscribed at the top of lid cha-ire (tea caddy). Signed ZÔHIKO with a black seal imprint at bottom of box. This piece is located in Europe (EC). |
