Albumen print, hand colored. Title: C 25 CLEANING THE RICE PLANT. A group of farmers standing near the farm house, beating the rice out of the plants and cleaning away the straw. A mother and three children watch. Artist: Kusakabe Kimbei (1841-1943). Photograph probably from mid 1880s. Mat and framed.
Inner outline of mat: 7 7/8 x 10 5/8 inches (20.1 x 27.2 cm) (the actual photo is slightly larger, as it continues underneath mat); frame: 18 ¼ x 20 ¼ inches (46.9 x 51.9 cm). Basically good condition. Hinged at margins on matboard (can be undone). Kusakabe Kimbei (1841-1943) was active in the 1880s through 1900. He was an assistant to Felix Beato until 1863.
