Chinese porcelain flambe glazed vase
Ca. early 1800s

Glaze varies in tone from a deep oxblood color through shades of lavender purple, blues and turquoise. From the white mouth rim, the glaze streams from a red-streaked celadon to pool on the shoulder in oxblood with blue hints. From the shoulder to the foot, the glaze continues to stream down through reds, pinks, purples, and blues and again pools on the foot in swirls of color. Excess glaze was neatly ground off the footring after firing as was often the case with copper flambe glazes of this period. The base is glazed a cafe au lait brown and the fine, white paste of the footring is clearly visible. The interior is covered in a flambe glaze from the mouth ring to approximately halfway down the neck in red and pink tones with drips of blues and purples. The rest of the interior is clear glazed. Very good condition.

Height: 7 ¼ in.
