An elegant carved hardwood figure of a seated cat, sacred to the goddess Bastet. The cat is depicted seated squarely on a shallow plinth with his tail wrapped around the right side of his haunch. The head is delicately carved and retains incised decoration around the eyes and muzzle. Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 730-332 BC Intact as shown Size: 9.4 x 4.6 cms Ex. private collection, Sweden; acquired 1970's.
