Reputedly from a collection acquired in the late 19th Century.

SOLD 

A pottery lekythos with a white ground body decorated in black with trailing ivy sprigs between a trellis pattern. Greek, Athens, early 5th Century BC Neck repaired, some chipping and also surface encrustation over part of the body Size: 15.9 x 5.4 cms Ex. collection: Sir Francis Sacheverel-Darwin, 1786-1859; probably collected between 1808-1810. Sir Francis was the uncle of Francis Galton and the half-uncle of Charles Darwin.
