A small moulded pottery figure of Silenos retaining extensive red and white pigment decoration. Silenos was an elderly satyr who was said to have fostered the god Dionysos and is therefore often portrayed on wine-related items. Greek, Canosan colonies in South Italy, 4th Century BC Size: 6.1 x 2 cms Intact as shown, a break under the foot suggests that this has either lost its base or was attached to a large vessel or figure-group. Ex. private collection, Sussex, UK.
