Intact apart from a tiny firing chip on the lower body

Provenance: Ex. private collection, Dorset, UK. Acquired during the 19th Century. This forms part of a collection of a few dozen objects which have remained untouched in an attic since the 1960's.

A pottery patera vessel with a single loop handle. This type of shallow dish was used for pouring libations at altars and other places of sacrifice.
Roman, c. 1st Century AD
Crack on one side and part of rim repaired.
Size: 16.7 x 4 cms
Acquired in the late 19th or early 20th Century. Probably collected by the archaeologist, architect and author Arthur E. Henderson FSA, FRIBA, RBA.
