Living National treasure Toshu Yamamoto BIZEN Guinomi
This Guinomi is a work of Toshu Yamamoto who was authorized thirdly in "Bizenyaki" by living national treasure.He is called a potter's wheel expert. Size Diameter 6.5cm Height 4.6cm With A signature box Toshu is 1906 Born in Inbe, Bizen City. 1921 Started making pottery. 1938 Studied pottery under Yaichi Kusube. 1959 Designated as a “Preserver of Important Intangible Cultural Treasure”,in Okayama Prefecture. Acknowledged as a regular member of the Japan Industrial Art Institution. Won a Gold Prize at World Expo in Brussels. 1970 Acknowledged as a director of the Japan Industrial Art Institution. 1972 Received a Merit of Culture from Okayama Prefecture. 1974 Mainichi Newspaper Company published “Bizen--Works of Toshu Yamamoto.” 1975 Received a Merit of Culture from Sanyo Newspaper Company. Received the Miki Memorial Award from Okayama Prefecture. 1976 Received a Merit of Public Contribution from Bizen City. Received the Medal with a Purple Ribbon (for contributions to educationand culture) from the Prime Minister’s office. 1977 Received a Merit of Art from Mainichi Newspaper Company. 1979 Presented a “Triangular Flower Vase with Cascading ‘Goma’(natural ash glaze)” to the Ise Shrine. 1980 Presented a flower vase to King Juan Carlos I and Queen Sophia of Spain. 1981 Presented a “Round Vase with Cascading ‘Goma’ to the Imperial Palace of Japan. 1982 Receivel the Order of the Sacred Treasure from the Prime Minister’s office. 1986 Held a solo exhibition commemorating his 80th birthday. 1987 Designated as a “Preserver of Important Intangible Cultural Treasure”of Japan--a “Living National Treasure”. 1991 Designated as a honorary citizen of Bizen City. 1992 Sanyo Newspaper Company published “A Living National Treasure of Bizen--Toshu yamamoto”. Held a solo exhibition “Trip to the 6 Ancient Kilns”, commemorating his 88th birthday. 1993 Died on April 22. Received the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette from the Prime Minister’s Office.
