This is a wonderful 18 Century (Circa: 1795-1800) French or Russian Empire high quality hand painted ivory miniature of the beautiful young girl with golden hair. The colors, tones and shadowing of the miniature are incredible. The miniature is gouache and watercolor on ivory. The miniature has original frame and glass. Diameter 3"1/8'. A wonderful 200 years old object de vertu. I have brought this miniature from Moscow.

This is a wonderful 18-19 Century Russian or French ivory box in neoclassical style with high quality hand painted ivory miniature of the sitting lady with the birds on the top of the box. The miniature placed in brass frame. The colors, tones and shadowing of the miniature are incredible. The box made inside from tortoise. According to the age the box has the small chips. I didn’t find a signature. Dimension of a box is: diameter 2"3/8', thickness 1".

Museum quality miniature portrait of Russian Tsar Nicholas I (1796-1855) in young age by very famous Russian artist Nikolai Ivanovich Argunov (1771-1829). It is very rare to find works of N.I.Argunov in the private collections. On the miniature Nicholas I has the order of St.Andrew the Firstcalled and Maltese cross. Miniature is gouache, watercolor and pencils on parchment (pergament), framed in original bronze frame, signed middle right, framed size is 8"x 5" (20 x 13 cm). In the Pavlovsk palace at St.Petersburg is very similar portrait of Nicholas I by N.I.Argunov executed in oil on canvas. You can see this portrait from the Pavlovsk palace on my last photo in this listing.
N.I.Argunov was court portrait painter. He was the son of the painter I.P.Argunov. He sometimes signed his work "Argunoff". N.I.Argunov was an academician. An exhibition of his work was held at the Ostankino Palace Museum in 1951.
