This is a highest quality watercolor painting of the horseman by well known Russian painter Nikolai Egorovich Sverchkov (1817-1898). Born in St.Peterburg, he visited France, Germany and Holland. He exhibited in Paris from 1859 and one of his works was bought by the French Emperor Napoleon III in 1863. He was a member of the Academy in St.Petersburg from 1852. The painting depicts portrait of Leyb-hussar K.A.Druzhinin on a horse. The same portrait in oil on canvas is in Vologda Art Museum in Russia (see copy of this oil portrait on my photo). The painting is watercolor on paper, signed and dated 1895 bottom right. The size is 9"1/2' x 11"1/2'(14 x 19 cm), with the frame 15" x 17"1/2'(38 x 44.5 cm).
