This is an old Russian high quality patina bronze sculpture of a horseman monogrammed Evgeniy
Aleksandrovich Lansere (1848-1886). Perfect condition. Height 23 cm (9”). I took this sculpture from a family who brought it from Russia many years ago. The sculpture has a stamp of casting master N.Shtange, signed in Russian. E.Lansere was a very famous Russian sculptor. He produced a long series of small bronzes of horses which show a highly professional knowledge of the animal in every position. It is very difficult to find an original Lansere sculpture. Russian museums have numerous Lansere sculptures of warriors on horseback, some historical or exotic. His biography is published in well known “A Dictionary of Russian & Soviet Artists 1420-1970” by John Milner, Woodbridge, Suffolk, 1993, p.245 (see Lansere’s page from this reference on the photos).
