Pair of jars with scenes of birds on white ground. The lids of the jars match the body of the vase. The vase has cranes, phoenixes, and peacocks. The bottom register is a red pattern on white. The top has two registers one is a white floral pattern on red, the register above it has red flowers on green ground. The lid as the same bird scenes with a stripped border. The lid has a small pull with red flower on top. They measure 18" tall. Mid 20th century.

Beautiful porcelain kutani beauty, geisha in training. She reads a poem, possibly a love poem. She wears a robe that is tied in front, miko, indicative that she is not yet a geisha. The outer robe is blue decorated with white, red, green, and gold colors. Overall excellent condition. She measures 13.5" tall. Meiji Period (c1900).

Striking large Japanese ceramic Tokoname jar, wonderful irregular shape, large kiln fragments, thick ash glaze with unusual subtle blue and yellow striations, Momoyama Period (1573-1615). (The Tokoname Kiln is considered one of the "6 Ancient Kilns" and was located at Tokoname on the Chita Peninsula, bordering Ise Bay.) Size: 181/2" high x 17 1/2" wide x 17" deep.
