A Ninsei image of a bearded courtier leaning against an armrest in white robes decorated with winged crests by Miyagawa (Makuzu) Kozan I enclosed in the original signed wooden box. The upper part of the body lifts off to reveal the incense chamber. Outside the box is titled Koro, Inside is written Ninsei Jinbutsu-Kon (Opening Ninsei Figure) and signed A relic remaining by the 75 year old man followed by the signature of the second generation. Utilitarian by nature, this torch is nonetheless, able to combine several decorative motifs to make a beautiful work. Sitting on a small, flat base the handle has ribbed detailing with the rim of the torch being decorated with incised triangles and dots.
