A lovely and rare pottery bowl or bassin depicting domesticated cheetahs or leopards, Indus Valley, probably Nal culture, 3rd. millenium BC.

The vessel finely decorated overall with three felines with spotted furs, and chained to small symbolic trees. Larger trees as spacers and a band of Ibexes above. Concenthric decoration near the wide rim, all in brown on a beige ground.

Finely made battle axe with a long enforced and narrow blade with a ridge at the top and an elaborately made socket in a zoomorphic shape with a broad decorated backplate.

Size: 126 mm. long and 94 mm. tall.

Condition: Choice Extremely fine, with a lovely deep redish patina with a dusting of green and earthern highlights.

Chogappo made of fragments of ramie which is recycled from old textiles. Pojagi is the general name for the wrapping cloth and "chogappo" is one kind of pojagi which is patchworked with asa (choma or hemp) fragments. (Reference source: "Korean Embroidery and Wrapping Cloths from the Choson Dynasty" published by Japan Art & Culture Association in 1995). Both warps and wefts are hand-plied. Antique blue and white jug, 18th-century, made in Europe. It is made of blue and white Delft faience and has pewter mounts. The jug has a globular body with a cylindrical neck, a spreading foot, a pinched lip, and a strap handle. The cobalt blue paint is decorated with intricate scrollwork, swags, and foliate motifs.

Antique late Qing Dynasty Chinese cast bronze and hand-chiseled tripod incense burner censer, in the form of the Lotus flower. The sides are applied with twin Lotus blooms as the strap handles.

The censer base is bearing a seal mark in very unusual apocryphal spindly style of” Shuowen Jiezi “Script within a rectangular cartouche.

A rare antique Iwayado Kuruma Choba Tansu (wheeled merchant chest) made of Keyaki (Zelkova) and Suginoki (Cryptomeria) woods. All original hand forged iron hardware and Kijiro Urushi lacquer. Featured metalwork includes motifs of Chrysanthemums and Pine trees symbolizing the Takasago Immortal couple. Unusual pod shaped designs on the recessed drawers.

Late Meiji (1890s - 1910s) Japanese bamboo wrist rest used by painters and calligraphers, with low relief carving of a blooming camellia branch. One narrow side edge is tapered, so it can be used as a tea scoop as well. Beautiful subtle piece, superb quality carving, warm patina, in excellent condition. Wonderful object for a scholar’s desk. Size 4 3/8 x 1 15/16 inches.

18th century or earlier Japanese magatama bead made out of off-white jadeite with apple green and darker green to black patches. Magatama are curved beads which first appeared in Japan during the Jomon period (circa 1000 BCE), and in Korea during the Prehistoric period, mainly in the Bronze Age and Neolithic...
