Rubbing taken from a Han Dynasty tomb vault wall depicting an elegant royal mounted entourage being greeted by courtiers. Excellent detail, horizontally mounted as a scroll with textured silk border. The calligraphy translates “Outstanding old scene” signed Zhao Jianchang. L: 197cm/76in x H: 58cm/23in, with mounting-L: 243cm/95in and W: 68cm/27in.

This large sterling silver pig pincushion was made by Adie and Lovekin Ltd of Birmingham in what appears to be 1906 - the date letter is somewhat rubbed, but it is certainly of that period. The length of this muscular pig is 86 mm (3 3/8ths inches), it stands 46 mm (1.75 inches) high and is 28 mm (1 inch) deep. Although structurally sound, there are a few minor dents, a couple of light scratches, and his tail has been pushed in.

Here is a madly over-the-top Egyptian Revival piece, centering Hathor, the goddess of dance, music, and fertility (how cool is that!). She is wearing big earrings, and her usual headdress. She seems to have a flower in her hair, and in front of her there is greenery tied by a ribbon with a bow (we can’t tell if it’s laurel or mistletoe). The ink pots (glass inserts are not present) have winged hearts on them, and are surmounted by crescent moons – symbolic of many things in many cultures...
