This is an exquisite late 19th century mirror, directly inspired of the Louis XVI style approximately a century earlier and originally coming from Provence (South of France) as indicated by the olive tree branches flanking the heraldic shaped central medallion standing upon a rectangular frame embellished with twisted ribbon pattern. The mirror is original and several minor scratches and dents can be seen due to the age. Circa date 1880-1890. Dimensions 27”high/ 16”wide.

Small antique Japanese lacquer zushi (personal shrine) with tiny carved wooden bodhisattva inside. The standing figure inside is painted black and gold. The exterior of the zushi is lacquered black and the inside is painted a deep green with delicate gold details. Tiny copper hardware.

Late 18th to early 19th century netsuke of a Chinese scholar with a boy attendant standing by a huge wine jar. Most probably the scholar is Rihaku (Li Po in Chinese) - a celebrated, probably the most famous poet of China, equally renown for his love of wine. Beautiful carving, wonderful faces and detailing of their clothes, expertly incised different textile patterns. Light staining, excellent patina. Height 1 7/16 inches.

Late 19th century netsuke of a kneeling geisha holding a box with sliding cover in front of her while a little boy standing behind her points at it, and she raises her free hand to her mouth in pretend embarrassment. The box must have originally contained some implements of sex trade, now lost. DESCRIPTION: A good woven wicker French fishing creel with lid having a rectangular hole and leather straps attached to the rounded creel body. A long sturdy canvas and leather strap threads through two holes in the back for wearing over the shoulder. The metal maker’s tag on top reads “MF, FERAX, MANUFACTURE FRANCAIS” stamped on a raised fish. Early 20th C., good condition with very minor losses to wicker. DIMENSIONS: 13.25” wide x 9” high x 7” deep.
