Rare one of a kind astrological animal (tiger) from the Western Jin Dynasty- the front legs may have been ground down. Fantastic detail with traces of a thin lead glaze, noticeable from the areas of silver patina (see 4th enlargement). L: 10.1cm/4in and H: 4cm/1.6in. Antique Japanese Buddhist abbot's oxbow arm folding chair. Made of red and gilt lacquer hardwood, with seat made of leather. The backrest has gilt lacquered panels with geometric motif carvings and pierced lingzhi carving, the reverse of the backrest marked with a triple mokko-mon (family crest). The edges of the chair are decorated in metal plating incised with motifs of chrysanthemums.

Ram's horn on bottom upon which a rearing ureas cobra is perched, with gaps probably originally containing inlays, crowned with the solar disc; the cobra flanks a large, curling ostrich plume with multiple horizontal incised lines.
