Rare and very old mouflon horn carved in the shape of the monkey king head ( san wukong ) wearing his helmet, and engraved with a beautiful design.
Believed to be a shaman's talisman; I rather think that it was a « protective » utensil hanging at the belt of the horsemen, used to untie the tight knots of their leather straps.
Very nice patina, very good condition. 12 cms . 19Th C. or before. China (Shanxi) or Mongolia.
