Antique marquise shaped 18K gold and chrysoberyl ring is an excellent example of Portuguese jewelry of the late 18th century. The Portuguese mined these gemstones from their colony in Brazil and created jewelry that was typically pave-set as seen here. The ring is size 10 and can be sized to fit.

The ring is a size 5 1/2 and due to its small size it was likely worn by the wife of the deceased as a memento while he traveled. The ring measures 1 1/4 at its widest. Marks in back include Anchor, Lion and small "b" with maker's mark of "W A" all of which are in depressed cartouches, also numbers 5 & 2 superimposed and an 8 as model or style number.

Our 18K gypsy ring has 3 well mounted and clean round diamonds mounted securely in a polished gold band. Such rings were made with the gemstones set flush with the gold band, one of the most secure ways to set a ring. The secure setting made the rings well suited for people with active lifestyles and were popular well into the twentieth century. The ring looks great stacked with others or alone. The year “1909” and an 18K mark can be seen on the inside of the band. The name is indecipherable...
