Japonesque sterling silver centerpiece bowl. Made by Tiffany & Co. in New York, ca 1877. Hemispheric with wavy rim; round and stepped foot. Exterior has applied and acid-etched ornament heightened with gilding and engraving: Leafing branches with pendant gourds and tendrils. Acid-etched stylistically integrated interlaced script monogram. Interior gilt-washed and engraved with same. Spot hammered ground.

Raised ornamental borders with beading in x-form frames at top and bottom. Scrolled armorial keyplate. Originally for the days when sugar was kept under lock and key.
