George III sterling silver sugar basket. Made by Robert Hennell in London in 1785. Ovoid boat bowl with c-scroll swing handle and raised oval foot. Engraved ornamental borders and swags with 2 pendant wreaths of which one with interlaced script initials and the other with armorial. Rims reeded. Fashionable Georgian Neoclassicism by a noted maker. Fully marked. Very good condition. Engraving nicely “sunk” and rubbed.

I tested this piece with acid and it did not seem to be sterling silver. There are no Hallmarks at all. it is a beautiful piece with high relief.

It measures 6 3/4" tall. Measures 8" across the top. The base measures 3 3/4" across the bottom. This has a lot of silver content form the look of it but I do not know how much...
