The scene is very folky, obviously a creative design by the child doing the embroidery. Often samplers were copied from images provided by the "school" of handwork, but this is clearly an imaginative work...

Geometric quilting of waves around the outside and rectangular quilting in the other light squares. Great printed cotton backing.
Condition: May never have been washed as the blue chalk lines for the quilting are still visible...

This mid 19th century folk art crazy quilt is a wonderful mix of richly colored silks and hand embellished surface stitches. The back is a green cotton sateen fabric tied with floss.
