These lovely linen travel rolls were made and sold in Maine and NH by the Shakers. They are made with natural linen and have red trim. During the winters the sisters embroidered them . I have owned a few of them and they are all different but great. This is a travel roll-up and so pretty to look at. It is 22" by 12". It does have a hole on the front, see pictures. Circal 1890

his is a doll quilt with knotted and tied quilting with cotton filling. It is a warm brown and tan color. It has a stain on the under side that looks like rust. It has no rips or tears. It is 15" by 17" and is circa 1890-1900.

A nice, vintage pair of 2-7/8 x 2-3/8" handmade kid leather gauntlet gloves c1900-10. These gloves have decorative stitchwork and pink dyed hightlights. This sweet little brown and red doll quilt is in exellent condition with just a little fraying on one edge...see close up. I like to see signs of age like this because it shows it really old. When fabric has been folded and washed and ironed the folds start breaking down the fabric, sometimes aging is a good thing. The quilt is 6" square and is backed with a double pink calico.

This are small red boiled wool mittens, hand sewn and 3" long. They are from the 1890-1910. In very good condition and amazing they are still together.

A vintage child's pair of kid leather and suede shoes with wooden buttons c1900. These high-side shoes are still soft and supple with only surface creases on the (slightly soiled) leather. The buttons are painted, and the suede soles have a branded 0 on the bottom. They are stamped 0 D660 on the interior, they are 4-3/8" long and 3" high, and they are in excellent condition with no losses, damage or repairs...

This is the upper part of a kamishimo; samurai's formal attire without the trousers. It was worn over a kosode (kimono with small sleeves) with trousers. The texture is hemp like; coarse, slightly translucent, thick threads (thicker than other kamishimo). The family crest is the feathers of a hawk. Kami-shimo (upper-lower) that we currently have are quite dandy and fashionable. The amazing thing is the work that is involved when making these fabrics...

An exceedingly rare beaded purse with multicolored glass beads on a leather base, and with beaded and wood toggle closures. This early purse might be unique because of its age and that the date is actually worked into the decoration as part of the phrase "Gift of a Friend 1632". The interior of the purse is of a very soft, fine leather, probably deerskin or lambskin.

Especially considering its age the purse is in excellent and exceptional condition, with all the beadwork present...

Circa 1900, a large needlework panel done in petit and gros point of a dog sitting on a stool in front of a window and bordered by various floral panels. Colors are cream and varied tones of reds, browns and tan. In a museum quality antique tiger maple frame with gold gilt liner and a wood panel back, it measures 23 x 26". Embroidery sight size measures 17.5” x 20.5".

A very well designed and executed eight point Star of Bethlehem pieced cotton quilt with excellent quilting. The pieces around the edges are white with very small pale blue printed sprigs. The pieces for the star are all solid colors. The backing is printed green cotton in a small pattern. Quilted with feather wreaths in the corners and partial ones between the points of the stars. All of the sewing is done by hand. 72 inches square...

Twelve eight pointed stars made of cotton printed in orange with small yellow clover-like shapes arranged in rows of twos and threes with alternating white squares all enclosed in three bands of the same printed fabric. The outside band is turned over the edge to join the white cotton backing. Cotton seeds visible in the stuffing. All hand stitched. Very good quilting with running feathers and cross stitching over much of the surface. There is an embroidered, “E” on the back in one corner...

A striking quilt in a deep red and black. Most importantly the quilt has, stitched on its reverse, "Sarah amd Anne Hoit, Burlington, VT 1838". It also has, stitched at a later time, "A Present to O. Sherman 1881". It is very uncommon to find a quilt, especially such an early one, with such complete information as to the maker, place and date. The piece is approximately 82" square, with the cutouts being 16" square.

The double red border is of the same red printed pattern. There are seeds visible in the filling between the backing and the jam side. A large double Irish chain pieced quilt with the chain consisting of red squares enclosing yellow ones on a white ground. The back is turned over the top to form the edge. The red border quilted with swags encloses a white border with a running feather wreath. Inside are red saw teeth and then the chains across the field. Cotton seeds visible through the back side. The white squares enclosed by the chain are quilted with a number of different circular motifs. 77 by 90 inches.

School girl hand embroidered sampler from New Hampshire, late 18th or early 19th century. Measures 6 5/8" x 10 1/4", in frame measuring 10 1/2" x 14 1/4", with green mat and tan paper backboard. The scene is very folky, obviously a creative design by the child doing the embroidery. Often samplers were copied from images provided by the "school" of handwork, but this is clearly an imaginative work. A design of a green cross with all sides equal enclosed in a rectangle on one point with red steps and green saw teeth in rows and columns of five against a background of light and dark blue checked fabric. Geometric quilting of waves around the outside and rectangular quilting in the other light squares. Great printed cotton backing.

Condition: May never have been washed as the blue chalk lines for the quilting are still visible. There is a stain near the border.

A pieced cotton quilt in a pattern called, “Goose on the pond” probably from the mid-West and made in the late 19th century. The pattern is made up of pattern printed blue, orange and white fabrics. The same orange fabric is used throughout, but the blue and white are made up of different prints. The quilting is diagonal lines. Cotton seeds in the stuffing visible through the back. Front edge turned to the back. All hand stitched. 72 inches square.
