Fantastic double-sided ivory silk embroidered purse, circa 1730-1750. The front features a gorgeous blossom with beautifully shaded petals and a black center unusually constructed of black metal bands. A rare, early 17th century drawstring purse, worked in golden and silver metallic threads in plaited braid stitches and edged with green silk thread. Classically Jacobean, this purse features a knotted square design and is decorated with three plaited tassel balls to the bottom edge and two large balls at each top corner. Lined in pink silk, now discolored. Great condition for its age; drawstring and small sections of stitching are lacking. Measures 5 1/4” by 4 7/8”.

An exceedingly rare beaded purse with multicolored glass beads on a leather base, and with beaded and wood toggle closures. This early purse might be unique because of its age and that the date is actually worked into the decoration as part of the phrase "Gift of a Friend 1632". The interior of the purse is of a very soft, fine leather, probably deerskin or lambskin.
