Abutting hearts in the center are a lovely design but the star they form makes it even more special. The center design is surrounded by a quilted wreath. This folky Sampler Quilt has a great combination of traditional and original blocks. Nothing could be more traditional than the center Schoolhouse done with nicely inked detail. Below it is a Bear's Paw signed "Fannie J. Gould March 24, 1892". While the top was certainly made in the 19th century, the backing is later. It seems to be from the 1950's. The quilt is in excellent condition. Measurements are 76" x 78"; New England origin.

From a design standpoint this kilim is arranged like an Obruk kilim (the pointed hooked mirhab topped with a tree of life design, and flanked in the spandrels by two more such designs). However the color palette and the feel are not typically Obruk. From a Charlotte, NC estate.

It's safe to say that this folky sampler or album crib quilt is a one of a kind. The blocks are appliqued; ruched and embroidered. Many are floral motifs but it also includes an American flag; eagle; stars and moon as well as two not quite determined animals. It's interesting that even though there is a range of detail and skill, it all appears to have been done by the same hand. The front is a wool ground with primarily wool applique and embroidery that seems to be late 19th century...
