This Mennonite Straight Furrows Log Cabin quilt is one of the most unusual I have seen. Elaborate embroidery creates a great counterpoint to the hard edges of the log cabin blocks and makes it "dressier" than most wool log cabins. The overlapping circles border is most unusual if not unique for this type of quilt. The solid color green tone is also out of the ordinary. The entire piece is made of wool. It is in pristine condition. Measurements are 72 inches square...

This Center Medallion Log Cabin Quilt is surely one of a kind. The center Log is surrounded by rows of diamonds and triangles with lush 1870's fabrics. Diagonal placement of the diamonds in the corners makes the pattern especially dynamic. Sewn to the back of the quilt is a note that reads "If anything happens to me this quilt made by great grandmother Bell goes to Milton"...

To the best of my knowledge, this appliqued and reverse appliqued crib quilt is an original pattern. Imaginative as well as literal leaves surround a large central motif. The quilt is professionally mounted on a stretcher that measures 42 1/2 inches square. Cleverly, it is hinged and can be folded in half for ease of transportation. The colors have an overall softness to them...

This extraordinarily complex quilt has so many patterns that it is difficult to say for certain which the maker intended as the primary. The Variable Stars can override the squares in diamonds known as an Economy Patch pattern. Diagonal combinations of squares and triangles create additional patterning and serve as a border. It is well pieced and quilted; measurements are 67" x 78". It is made of a deep inky blue calico with tiny print stars; excellent condition.

This embroidered summer spread is an American rarity. It is centered with an eagle from whose mouth is a flowing banner with the words E pluribus unum. Above the eagle is the name Mrs. M.T. Branch. Below the eagle is the date 1845 and Hopkinton. There is a town of Hopkinton in both New Hampshire and Massachusetts. Graceful pots and branches of flowers surround the eagle. The spread has cut corners for a four poster bed, a feature often found in New England bedcovers...

The maker of this applique crib quilt combined several floral elements that do not grow together in nature. The central element is difficult to name but it is surrounded by crisscrossed tulips and has oak leaves in the border. Regardless of the liberties she took (or perhaps because of them), the maker created a wonderful composition. The strong center is filled out well with the tulips and the border with curved elements and oak leaves could not be more graceful...

Delicate Floral Wreaths quilt, done on an unusually small scale. The color palette initially gives the impression of this being a quilt from the 1920's. Closer inspection of the fabrics indicates it is actually from the late 19th century. Very well quilted with a variety of patterns. The centers of the wreaths quilted in the off blocks are filled with different floral patterns. Professionally laundered; pristine condition. Measures 73" x 76"; Pennsylvania origin. Circa 1870.

Superb and rare antique needlework pocket on canvas, probably Pennsylvania Dutch, dated 1852. 18th and 19th century pockets took the place of purses; they tied at the waist under skirts and aprons and held anything from keys to money to sewing supplies. The contents were accessed by a vertical slit at the front. This is an amazing piece of folk art: the cross stitch motifs include a stag lying beneath a tree, hearts, flowers initials, and a dog. The header, back and lining are plain linen...
