It's difficult to say whether or not the maker of this Fifteen Point Lone Star Quilt set out to make this pattern or whether it got out of control. In either case, it is likely unique. It is interesting that five point stars surround the central image and the overall star essentially has five sides. So maybe this was all intentional? Unwashed, immaculate condition. Wonderful selection of fabrics. Measures 80" square; Pennsylvania origin; circa 1880.
Bow Tie pattern quilt unusually set in Four Patch blocks. Great combination of vibrant colors gives this a harlequin feel. Unwashed condition. Bow Tie blocks are quilted in straight lines; the solid blocks are quilted with diagonal lines, all contributing to the sense of vibrancy and movement of the quilt. Measures 77" x 81"; circa 1910.
This unusual geometric quilt can be seen in several ways. Vertically, the large blocks look like giant Hourglass patterns. Horizontally, they look like stylized Baskets. In either case, it is an imaginative pattern, well executed. Unwashed condition with several minor age spots. Measures 70" x 82"; Pennsylvania origin. Circa 1890. A note pinned to the quilt says it was "pieced by Grandmother Haines - signed Grace Woodbury".
This strong Star Spangled Banner quilt is further emboldened by the use of solid color fabrics as well as the large size of the quilt. What is now a warm grey probably began as green. It has oxidized evenly and the color is very pleasing. The star motif is repeated in with LeMoyne stars in quilting. Sawtooth border is an excellent continuation of the triangles making up the stars. Unwashed condition. Measures 91" square; Ohio origin.

These two visually exciting, unusual Herringbone Pattern Hooked Rugs were certainly made as a pair. I am willing to separate them only because one shows some signs of use while the other does not. Both have a tremendous three dimensional effect. Colors are rich and varied. They are wool; circa 1920. Each measures 35" x 70".
Rug on right is sold. Left is $1650.
Were it not for the trapezoidal shape of this Grandmother's Flower Garden, one would mistake it for a doll quilt rather than the chair pad it is. Hexagons are appliqued to the backing. Wool; two small breaks in the fabric show the paper foundations of the hexagons. Beautiful colors are well planned and create a "fence" around the flower gardens. Pennsylvania Mennonite; circa 1900. Measures 16" x 17 3/4" at its largest.

Even the cover and mat, made of the same damask, have embroidered crosses on them, and are bordered with metallic thread. Overall condition is very good, with some scattered splits and stains.
