Elegant, pristine reversible Bars quilt. It may be English, in which case it would be referred to as a Strippy quilt. Regardless of where it originated, this piece was done by a master. The quilting is superbly done in a variety of patterns.The fabrics are elegant cotton sateens and beautifully coordinated. The backing is similar to the front but not identical. It is totally reversible. Measures 78" x 94"; circa 1920.
This charming Double Nine Patch quilt has smaller than postage stamp pieces. Each block measures a mere half an inch in diameter. It is made entirely of solid color fabrics. Consistent use of red centers enhances the diagonal chain effect.The ten borders repeat the colors used throughout the quilt. The white blocks are quilted with patterns of feathered flowers. Measurements are 75" x 87". Indiana origin; circa 1920.
A clutch worked from a 19th century Chinese silk embroidery with Peking knot, the space beetween filled with tiny white seed glass beads. White lining and green jade imitating glass knob. Condition: lining with few traces of usage, clean. Dimension: c. 19 cm x 12.5 cm.
Unlike the usual overall Tumbling Blocks quilt pattern, this one separates the blocks into clusters. This variation creates six point stars in the white open spaces. The use of solid color fabrics make the three dimensional pattern especially effective.

Funky, unusual version of Rocky Road to Kansas done in wools with embroidered hearts, animals and floral motifs. Measures 37" x 70", a wonderful size for hanging whether vertically or horizontally. Cotton stripe backing also used to create the binding. Circa 1920; Maryland origin.
This comforter is made of cigar flannels from the early 20th century. The flannels were given as premiums wrapped around packages of cigarettes and small cigars. The largest flannel is the American flag in the center with slightly smaller flags of Mexico; Italy; Russia and Greece for the corner blocks. All of the other flannels are of Native American motifs. This Pinwheels pattern quilt is calm and serene, yet not boring. It is a sophisticated shade of dusty rose done in cotton sateen, giving it something of a "dressed up" feel. The matching pillow sham is a true rarity. It would serve for the purpose for which it was intended, but equally well as a matching dresser scarf or wall hanging. Professionally laundered; nicely quilted. Quilt measures 79" square; pillow sham is 31" x 78". Circa 1920.
Geometric quilt that comes closest in pattern to Corn and Beans or Fox and Geese. Placement of the blocks, as well as the use of fabrics, makes this soft toned quilt quite dazzling in patterning. There is actually not a secondary or background block. Both take on equal prominence. Shirting plaids and stripes are nicely complemented by the double blue and pink calico prints. It is interesting that the quilt is made entirely of triangles. The Basket itself is comprised of three triangles and the border is made of right angle triangles. Measurements are 60" x 72". This precisely made New York Beauty quilt is a fine example of a desirable and difficult to execute pattern.
It is well pieced and quilted. The off blocks are stitched with large wreaths. LeMoyne stars are a good choice for the centers of each block. It has been professionally laundered and is in pristine condition. The quilt measures a generous 90" x 96". Pennsylvania origin; circa 1920's.

Unusual hooked rug of hexagons filled in with a variety of patterns. It is made of wools; circa 1920. Mounted on a stretcher and ready to be hung either horizontally or vertically. The stretcher is 36" x 73. The rug is in excellent condition. There is a puncture on the foamcore backing that does not go through to the rug.
Antique Kurdish bagface, or bag front, Northwest Persia, late nineteenth--early 20th Century, 14" by 19". Single Memling gul in blue-green, brown-black, dark ivory, several shades of red, apricot, midnight blue, etc. Multicolored diagonal stripe border. Original selvedge, good condition. All dyes appear natural, including the beautiful apricot often found in this type of bag.
