This 20 block Album quilt is a wonderful combination of original blocks with a few traditional. Each one is signed with information available about the signers. My favorite is the finely appliqued horse from whose mouth is written in ink "I'll take my oats". Other blocks have birds, butterflies and hands. The quilt is in excellent, unwashed condition. Measurements are 72" x 94". New Jersey origin; dated 1867.

Wonderful Art Nouveau style 19th century silk hand-embroidery of a golden hair maiden (a bride?) holding a bouquet of pink flowers, framed within a lacy tree arbor and standing atop a blanket of daisies. Lovely pastel colors in soft shades of pink, green, blue and yellow make this piece feminine and serene. Unusual handmade frame with glass, front and back cut in a stylized V shape. The back of this piece continues the scrolly tree branch, centered with a pastel blue butterfly...

A very nice early heart shaped pin cushion made to hang from a hook or tied on to the side of a sewing basket. It is in fine condition with some pins still in it so it has been used. It is hand sewn and stuffed with cotton. The fabrics have wonderful saturated colors. It is 5" by 4" wide and 2" thick...see pictures. It is Circa 1870. The pincushions were common in New England and I have found this same shape made by the Shakers for their sewing boxes.

This Lone Star is beautifully offset on a fire red background. The soft colors of the star contrast well with the very strong background. The brown used only for the center star makes a great focus. The body of the quilt is stitched with a pattern of diamonds and a cable in the border. The backing is a bars pattern in red and green calico. It is reversible to this side making for an entirely different quilt. Measurements are 84" square. Pennsylvania origin; circa 1880.

"Roman Cross", a pieced quilt, this is a remarkable example of a relatively early quilt, circa 1860-1880, the fabrics are documented classics of the period and remain strong and vibrant. There is one tiny professional repair and very minor muting of the fabric along the binding. The stitching is entirely by hand at seven stitches per inch and includes diagonal, parallel line quilting, thin batting. This mid 19th century folk art crazy quilt is a wonderful mix of richly colored silks and hand embellished surface stitches. The back is a green cotton sateen fabric tied with floss. Eighty seven silk tags create a whimsical border around the entire piece. Taken from a house used as part of the Underground Railroad during the Civil War, we believe this piece was the energetic work of a child learning how to sew.
