This Light and Dark Log Cabin quilt is a particularly well done example of a classic pattern. Many log cabins are not actually quilted and this one is, as can easily be seen in the red centers. It is a popular belief that the frequently used red centers of log cabins represent the hearth of the home. The piano key border is an especially desirable edge treatment. The quilt is made from a well chosen and placed variety of wool fabrics. Measurements are 76" square; excellent condition...

This are small red boiled wool mittens, hand sewn and 3" long. They are from the 1890-1910. In very good condition and amazing they are still together.
Chinese Coins is a pattern not often seen, even more rarely when done on a diagonal as is this example. The blocks are fairly large but create a stunning effect whether used either vertically or horizontally. This would make a spectacular hanging in a stairwell or over a sofa because of the 54" x 76" size. All wool fabrics; Circa 1910. Lancaster County, Pennsylvania Mennonite.

Anybody know what the initials SES stand for on this Schoolhouse comforter? My guess is Sex Education School. Very interesting mix of crude and sophisticated. The frame with vertically placed blocks is particularly well designed with color and fabrics deliberately planned. Red outlines each of the black corner blocks; the center 3 blocks of each side have fabrics distinguished from all others in the quilt. Excellent condition with the exception of several missing ties...
I can't believe a child could get these little antique gloves on, they are all hand sewn but so tiny and the fingers are so slim. They come ine the box they have been stored in for maybe 50 or 75years. They are out of an attic in the tiny town I live it. They have a few holes but no signs that anything went on in this box.
The box is a candy box and in pencil in a young persons writing is, "My Christmas" . The box has a date of 1909. I think the gloves are earlier 1870-80...

Feeling patriotic, anyone? This unusual Shields quilt

The quilting is not elaborate. It is done in straight lines in the body of the quilt and diamonds in the border. The concentric diamonds are machine appliqued.
The quilt is in excellent condition. There is one light smudge that can likely be removed with a wash but I have done nothing to it as I do not find it bothersome...

I am taking the liberty of naming this unusual pattern as Feathered Pinwheels. The four blocks in the center are a traditional Pinwheel but the addition of triangles around it create something new. Placement of the triangles creates an overall diamond pattern in addition.
