Some would call this pattern Mariner's Compass. I prefer Rising Suns, particularly with the warm orange centers. Never before have I seen an example so tiny and finely crafted. Each ray is but a tiny sliver.
The combination of the Suns with budding flowers appears to be an original combination. Setting it on an indigo ground makes it especially striking and unusual. It is quilted with three geometric patterns...

This little make-do beadwork piece is a mystery to me in two ways – in function and design. My guess is that it’s a pen rest and that the pen nib was intended to sit in the fluted white fixture at one end. The design on one side is a spaniel, but the design looks extremely odd – perhaps a bagpipe? At any rate, it’s a great little piece in good condition – small losses to spaniel, edges and corners. Measures 2 3/8” by 2”.

This mid 19th century folk art crazy quilt is a wonderful mix of richly colored silks and hand embellished surface stitches. The back is a green cotton sateen fabric tied with floss. Eighty seven silk tags create a whimsical border around the entire piece. Taken from a house used as part of the Underground Railroad during the Civil War, we believe this piece was the energetic work of a child learning how to sew. Lovely flower signed Jane among the varied and heavily embroidered pieces...
Twelve eight pointed stars made of cotton printed in orange with small yellow clover-like shapes arranged in rows of twos and threes with alternating white squares all enclosed in three bands of the same printed fabric. Signatures indicate the quilt was related to the North and Horner families of mid 19th century Baltimore. More complete information is available to purchaser.
"Roman Cross", a pieced quilt, this is a remarkable example of a relatively early quilt, circa 1860-1880, the fabrics are documented classics of the period and remain strong and vibrant.
