A very well designed and executed eight point Star of Bethlehem pieced cotton quilt with excellent quilting. The pieces around the edges are white with very small pale blue printed sprigs. The pieces for the star are all solid colors. The backing is printed green cotton in a small pattern. Quilted with feather wreaths in the corners and partial ones between the points of the stars. Beautiful antique beadwork case, probably Continental, dating from the mid 19th century. The piece is worked in bright and colorful beads and features a riot of figures: a man, a woman, a pair of ducks, and two other interesting creatures, possibly a dog and a cat, all against a white ground. The beadwork is in excellent condition; the box is lined with heavy card, which is somewhat misshapen, and black silk, which is shredding. Measures 3” by 2 1/4”.

This unusual floral abstract design rug is done with a technique called prodding or poking. It is similar to hooking but different in that the ends of the strips of fabric are not secured. It's difficult to find a name for this dynamic geometric quilt because it forms so many patterns. The basic block is much like a Basket pattern. The adjoining red blocks form a Bow Tie or Hourglass. Each square divided into a red and green triangle surrounded by a peach sawtooth is another way to look at the primary pattern. In sum, it's a fabulous, original piece with a lots of movement. The unlikely combination of these solid colors adds to the drama of the piece...

Probably a unique Starflower quilt pattern. On first glance, it looks like a Carolina Lily but in reality, it is much more unusual. Solid colors set on double blue calico seen most often in southeastern Pennsylvania. Binding repeats the red of the stars and creates a wonderful narrow frame. Unwashed condition; circa 1880. Measures 85" square.

Fantastic 18th century silver reticule – this little bag has a bit of everything! The body features silver sequins applied to silver thread netting over white silk. The knitted scalloped header is comprised of silver and gold metallic thread. The drawstring is twisted metallic thread with terminal balls made of sequins. Metallic thread tassel. After much searching, I have not found a comparable pattern to this. It is closest to those known as Wandering Foot; Burr and Thistle or The Swallow. This is a truly wonderful little early 19th century beaded coin purse. The front depicts a man fishing by a stream; there’s a vase of flowers on the reverse. The body of the bag is worked in golden yellow, and the beadwork for the designs is intricate and colorful. Great condition; a few bead missing at the bottom edges. Lovely gilt frame and chain. Purse measures 4 1/2”.

It is difficult to imagine that a quilt as fresh and crisp in condition as this Nine Patch is more than 125 years old. It was obviously packed away and never saw the light of day. Beautiful fabrics; wonderful zigzag border makes a great frame. Quilting in off blocks done in the same nine patch design as the primary pattern. Border quilted with diagonal lines.
