Princess Feather is almost always done as a four block pattern with each block having feathers radiating from a central design. This unusual example uses the same feathers in a unique design. The feathers gracefully alternate with tulips or maple leaves coming off undulating vines. The pattern looks equally good seen vertically or horizontally. It is well quilted with diagonal lines throughout. Condition is excellent. Measurements are 92 inches square. Pennsylvania origin; circa 1860.

A fine embroidered and painted silk memorial picture. Showing a lady and a girl besides a monument with urn near a waterfall, inscribed in French as "Oh our God". The subject of these pictures was a fashionable expression of romantic sorrow in Neoclassicism - Biedermeier. This type of embroidered picture, usually copied from prints, was made to demonstrate a girl's accomplishment in needlework. With original wooden frame. Dimension: total: c. 39.9 cm x 35.2 cm x 2.8 cm...

Afghan Baluch: Stunning (at least I think so) very old rug from Afghanistan Baluch weavers, all natural vibrant dyes. No a lot of knots but very supple and clean. Most of the flat weave head end is missing on one head end and about 15cm missing on the other. There are a couple of small holes and quite a few small but old repairs. Lovely piece ready to on your floor. Please view enlargements to see the true colors and condition of pile. L: 220cm/86in and W: 129cm/50in

This four block Pots of Flowers quilt is over the top both in terms of design and execution. The flowers; leaves; stems and chain sashing are all heavily stuffed applique. Finely detailed embroidery outlines the applique. Exuberant does not begin to describe the dense design that is so full it has something of an abstract look. The quilt has similarities to the work of Baltimore quilt maker known as Designer Three. Her quilts, as well as this piece, are intense in design and padded applique...

Delectable Mountains is often a bold, dynamic pattern but in this case, even more so than most. The fabric is a very, very dark blue/ green that in limited light looks black. The use of solid color fabric makes it even stronger. The quilt has a wonderful diamond border. It came from an estate in North Carolina but with no background information. The use of some dark quilting thread leads me to believe it is of Southern origin. Condition is excellent. Measurements are 78" x 86".

This is a rather elegant version of an Evening Stars quilt. It has a glazed chintz border with pea fowls throughout. The stars are beautiful grouping of brown printed fabrics with reddish brown in each corner. The back of the quilt is a pieced Bars pattern. It is from Ephrata, Pennsylvania (Lancaster County); circa 1850. Measurements are 92" square; excellent, unwashed condition.

This painted pot of flowers was probably intended as a decorative table mat. It measures 9 1/4" long x 8 5/8" wide and is professionally mounted on a stretcher that is 11 1/4" x 12". It is signed on the bottom Irena Foater who was probably the proud maker but might also have been the recipient. There is a small right angle tear in the central flower that shows in the thumbnail. There are no other condition issues...

This touching Stars quilt has the most unusual addition of appliqued flowers giving a nice "pop" to the already bold pattern. The solid red used for the deep triangle border is another element that adds drama. It is well quilted with small clamshell patterns. The quilt has been professionally laundered and is in excellent condition. Measurements are 84 inches square. Pennsylvania origin; circa 1870's.

This Whig Rose Quilt is well quilted and appliqued. It has nine buds emanating from each three layer central flower. The white blocks are nicely stitched with an unusual coiled wreath in the center and hearts; stars and flowers around it. The triple swag border is an elegant frame and has a nice continuation of the yellow centers of the appliqued blocks...

This is one of the most dramatic examples of a Swirling Pinwheel (aka Rising Sun or Wheel of Life) quilt that I have seen. The use of solid red and green punctuated by orange centers gives it real drama. The rows of diamonds around the Pinwheels add to the pulsating quality. LeMoyne Stars are another fine element. The quilt is in excellent, unwashed condition. There are some slight irregularities in the green which is probably a home dyed fabric and somewhat fugitive...

After much searching, I have not found a comparable pattern to this. It is closest to those known as Wandering Foot; Burr and Thistle or The Swallow. Unlike them, this quilt has a square center while the others have centers with a curved or concave square. Regardless of the name, this quilt is well made...

This is one of the nicest drawstring seed bags that I have ever owned. It is a very tiny calico print in the best blue. It has the original drawstring and I always think that makes it nicer. There is a little darkening in a few areas but that is it. It is 5" by 6" and is treadle machine sewn. Circa 1880

This pin cushion makes quite a statement. It has wonderful calico print fabrics in soft red, blue and brown. It is 7" square and is 3 1/2" thick and very heavy. You can see that it did have pins stuck in it at one time. It was made to be used. This is the best pin cushion! C. 1880 with some of the fabrics earlier.

Dated September 4th 1832, this lovely needlepoint saying titled "On Virtue" is surrounded with intricately embroidered flowers. In a bird's eye maple frame it measures 19.75" x 16.5", sight size 15" x 11.5". In very good antique condition, the background has darkened some with age (the first 2 photos showing the frame is most color correct.) Please note that the textile is not lighter on the bottom, it is a reflection as well as other light colored reflections coming from the glass.
